If you are thinking of enrolling in a HVAC training school, you may be wondering if it is right for you. Here are 5 ways to know it’s the right choice.
The employment opening for HVAC technicians is expected to grow by 9% next year – which means attending a training school is the right choice to ensure you get a job from the gate.
1. You are Great at Time Management
In the HVAC field, you’ll handle multiple jobs at once, make calls left and right, and answer query requests and queries throughout the day.
Attending a training school will help you manage your time effectively, learn which jobs take the longest to complete, and will help you learn about opportunities to prioritize – but you also need to have these skills yourself.
2. You Have Mechanical Skills
Of course, your mechanical knowledge does not have to be perfect when you start at school, but you should be comfortable with the equipment.
Familiarize yourself with basic terminology, and look at shadowing an HVAC technician before you start a class to give you a leg.
3. You are physically strong
Sports classes are usually not part of the HVAC training school course list – but because you’ll pick up the heavy equipment, climb the stairs in the apartment, and bring your equipment around, make sure you take care of your body
Plus, as many HVAC technicians work on their own, there is not much help in heavy lifting – and with the long days it takes work, exercise builds stamina.
4. You are an Excellent Troubleshooter
Although the HVAC school training course will teach you the specific mechanisms on how to fix the problem, you should come to your first class with the attitude that can be done and the willingness to work until the job is finished – not when work hours say it’s time to go.
You should also be able to keep the head level in high stress situations. Doing so will help you to keep your head clear, making the solution to the task at hand easier to find.
You need to be creative, innovative, and leverage your industry knowledge to solve some of the more complex HVAC issues out there.
5. You are Great at Customer Service
At the training school, you will soon learn that not every job – or any client – is easy to do. Whether you work with a business or individual, think of every call you make as an opportunity to improve your reputation – and therefore, get a new client.
